Reading posts here reminds me there are in fact people out there that understand and respect the creative process, and who wrestle with the same problems I do. Otherwise the whole process becomes very isolating and self doubt creeps in.

Many thanks!Peter Richardsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15566601617123798061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7321339472666778123.post-60455149368062734852010-07-07T08:44:24.983+01:002010-07-07T08:44:24.983+01:00Blogger got its panties in a twist yesterday over ...Blogger got its panties in a twist yesterday over comments - failing to post some, ignoring others. Sandy, you and I have been in enough meetings where committee thinking chases success as if it was a chemical formula you could mix in a test-tube.

Incidentally, Garen, talking of *true* success: Rainbow Orchid book two just came through the letterbox and I'm giving myself a couple of hours off this afternoon to curl up with a cuppa and really enjoy plunging into the world you've created. It's giving me a lovely tingle of excitement just thinking of it!Dave Morrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14468228790874490693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7321339472666778123.post-24263110543058576142010-07-05T12:12:22.162+01:002010-07-05T12:12:22.162+01:00Twenty hurrahs for this post, exactly how I feel. ...Twenty hurrahs for this post, exactly how I feel. You can tell Mirabilis is a project that comes from the heart not the movie deal. I've got a bit of a bug in my chug at the moment about writers who desperately want their work (script or novel) to be a movie (because movie = $uccess) and have heard that 'graphic novels' are a quick route in. 'How can I get into comics?' 'How do I find an artist?' are questions that keep coming up. A lot of questions I get through email can be boiled down to 'what is the magic button that will give me huge success?'. There isn't one.Garenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15235615048579159984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7321339472666778123.post-27255963206331254892010-07-05T05:23:10.460+01:002010-07-05T05:23:10.460+01:00Amen Dave, I am totally with you. Commercial success has never impressed me either, because it so often involves sacrificing the exact aspects of a thing that made it great in the first place (if in fact it ever was).

I hope you guys find a place where your definition of success and commercial success meet - but I hope that the second is just a happy side effect of the first.Sandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00599376696122828129noreply@blogger.com
